Every girl deserves a future filled with promise. Yet for many girls in Kenya, especially in marginalized communities, early pregnancy becomes a roadblock that too often leads to school dropout and shattered dreams.
At CBSM Kenya, we believe that being pregnant or becoming a young mother should not be the end of a girl’s education journey. It’s a turning point—not a dead end.
📚 Real-Life Urgency: Mt. Elgon KCPE Pregnancies
In November 2023, the Ministry of Health reported that 54 girls from a single Mt. Elgon school had fallen pregnant over the year—part of the 196 pregnancies among girls aged 10–14 and over 7,200 among those aged 15–19 in Bungoma County. Health workers cited poverty, unsafe forest routes, and poor parenting as major contributing factors .

A 2022 academic study on Mt. Elgon confirmed that teenage pregnancy, early marriage, poverty, and post-conflict trauma are driving girls out of school, with stigma and lack of safe spaces compounding the problem .

🌿 CBSM Kenya’s Call to Action
At CBSM Kenya, we believe these stories should not be swept aside—they should stir us to act. We are responding by:
- Launching awareness drives in affected communities using schools, radio, and churches.
- Supporting re-entry and retention policies that give pregnant girls and young mothers a second chance at education.
- Providing practical help—baby kits, uniforms, transport, and mentorship.
- Partnering with stakeholders to address root causes and build safer, stigma-free school environments.
These aren’t just numbers, they’re lives.
And every girl deserves the right to rise again.
🔍 Why Should you Care?
1. Because Education Transforms Lives
Girls who stay in school are more likely to earn better incomes, raise healthier families, and uplift entire communities. When we help a young mother return to school, we don’t just invest in her—we invest in a better society.
2. Because Every Girl Has Rights
Education is a basic human right. Denying girls the opportunity to learn because of pregnancy is not just unjust—it’s a violation of their dignity and their potential.
3. Because Stigma is a Silent Killer
Many girls drop out not because they lack the will—but because society shames them. We must challenge harmful attitudes that isolate these girls and instead build supportive environments that encourage their return to school.
4. Because It Prevents Future Cycles of Poverty
When girls drop out permanently, they often face early marriage, poverty, or abuse. But when they return to school, they become empowered mothers, professionals, and changemakers. The ripple effect is real.
5. Because Community Support Heals
Support from schools, parents, churches, health workers, and local leaders can restore a girl’s confidence. A kind word, a school uniform, or even a mentorship session can change her entire outlook.
💬 What Can We Do as a Community?
- Welcome Her Back – Say no to shaming and yes to compassion.
- Advocate for Re-entry – Support policies that allow girls to return to school after childbirth.
- Provide Practical Help – From baby care support to school fees, every little bit helps.
- Educate Boys Too – Build a culture of respect and responsibility.
- Speak Up – Use your voice to defend her right to education.
🌱 CBSM Kenya’s Commitment
At CBSM Kenya, we are committed to building inclusive, child-friendly communities. Through our education and community programs, we work with parents, teachers, youth, organizations of goodwill and local leaders to ensure no girl is left behind—especially not because she became a young mother.
We believe in second chances, restored dignity, and resilience.
Let’s rewrite the narrative. Let’s stand with our girls. Let’s give them the future they still deserve.
